The SNAZAROO "Cheek-Off"
This is a contest for designs that could technically fit on the cheek. These normally would be about four inches in diameter or smaller. If larger, they would probably fit better on the face-off contest found at www.snazaroo.us/queen/faceoff.htm WE PREFER TO SEE designs that would be painted LITERALLY on the cheek. You will notice by the photos posted that some photos definitely stretch this technical boundary. The popularity of this contest has grown and submissions have increased. Because of this, we have fine tuned the rules to get it more focused on cheek art. From time to time we get designs on the hand or other parts of the body that are smaller and do not really fit in the face-off or body-off so we have allowed them to be considered in this contest. The design DOES NOT HAVE TO BE on the cheek but it must be able to fit there with the dimensional rules. We now will only allow submissions that meet the 4 inch diameter guideline. The only stretch might be if there was a small inconsequential addition. I'll use the example of the bee submitted by Suzie Pierce. You will notice a small white trail that clearly pulls the design beyond the 4 inch diameter. This was allowed because the clear focus is the bee. Our suggestion is to avoid large backgrounds or the like that would push the limits on the 4 inch diameter parameter. Previously posted photos, once accepted, now no longer would be accepted. Since they are older contributions and complied with the rules at that time we have opted to keep them on this page. They certainly earned the right to be there. We just note that photos like the larger hand designs, the tribal lizard by Amy Tan or the flowers by Emma Edworthy (as examples) would no longer be accepted. If you are going to submit, please focus on 4 inch designs. These rules were last updated in June of 2008.
This is a new contest started in April of 2004 and it will be a perpetual contest. This is how it works... if you have an original piece of face painting or body painting that you think might pose a "challenge" to the current reigning King or Queen, then submit your photo to garycole@mindspring.com . In 2006 due to the popularity of this contest we split the contest into three categories... Faces, Bodies and Cheek Art. If the primary focus is the face then it might be put in the face contest even if there are parts of the design that flow onto the body. We discourage you from submitting painting that is simply painting on the back. Note: we are looking for originality. As an example we all have seen our share of tiger, Spiderman and butterflies. If you wish to submit one of these, it better be something quite unique. Again, think original! When you send in your image it is only a submission to the contest. Gary or the SNAZAROO discussion list team will hand select from the submission photos that they think might pose a challenge to the current champion. You may not submit a photo that has previously been submitted. As the submissions come in, we will select two "challengers" from the current queue of submissions. Voting will follow each round. Whoever gets the most votes gets to stay at the top. The others drop down in the pyramid. The longer you hold the position as champion, the higher you get to stay in the pyramid.
For this contest we want you to send in higher resolution images. Keep the pixel width around 555 and we will crop to make the image fit to standardize the photo page. The lower in the pyramid, the smaller the image becomes. The object is to stay on top of the pyramid the longest, as new challengers come to take you on. For this contest you will need to send in your very best efforts. Take your time on these images and take particular steps to have a neutral back ground, proper focus, proper zooming and proper lighting. Each of these will work toward your good. Focus on the "painted canvas" and not the body, costume etc. We think this will be a new twist on the SNAZAROO photo contests. As time goes on we will interject prizes if someone holds the crown for more than three consecutive months. If you were a reigning King or Queen and get knocked off the top of the pyramid, then you have to set out one full round before having another of your photos attempt a challenge. When you submit your photo make sure you give your name, your location in the world and let us know if you want either your e-mail or URL link posted under your photo. 1) You may not enter any photo that you have entered before
2) You may not use acrylics or any non-FDA approved face paint in any form. You are otherwise
allowed to use any FDA compliant face paint.
3) If your photo is very fuzzy or out of focus it will not be entered. There is no excuse
here because we are willing to scan the photo(s) for you.
4) Do not take your photo from 20 feet away. Get as close to your art work as possible. We
want to see the art not your entire living room.
